The first half of 2011...

We have also started a discipleship group with some of the people in our Life Group.  Trent has a group and I have a group.  Just a few of us meet and keep each other accountable and discuss our Bible readings and life issues.
This year Bellevue has decided to do a church wide Bible reading plan.  The women’s ministry has been doing this for a little while, but now the whole church is involved and it is awesome.  We are reading the Chronological Bible, where we get to see the big picture.  We get to read the Bible in context and had the background of the current passage to get the most out of our reading.  This will be my second year going through this plan and I really love it.  I am learning more and more through each reading, even in the second year of it.
I survived another tax season!  My work has changed a lot in the past year, with new employees and some employees are gone, and of course the new position.  We also moved our office last September.  It is a great new office.
Trent had a special honor come his way this past semester.  His preaching class selected Him to preach in chapel. On May 12th he preached a sermon from Matthew 4:18-22 in chapel at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.
Trent and I went on our first real vacation since our honeymoon in May/June.  We had the opportunity to go to a condo in Panama City, FL for a week.  We left on May …through May 27 and came back on June 2nd.  It was a great week of relaxation and great weather, although it was hot.  I hadn’t seen the sun much in the past few months because of tax season and working inside so it was great.
Also during May, Trent and I signed up for a 5k at church, which will be June 18th.  Some of the people in our class are going on a mission trip in July and are raising money for it.  So we decided to sign up.  I had been working on a 5k training in the past couple months to have a structured exercise program, so I didn’t know it was put I started by training for the 5k already!  I am excited and nervous!

2010...

Throughout the year (2010), a few friends and I decided we wanted to start a discipleship group.  We would basically learn how to lead a group by practicing on each other.  We each took turns teaching and really learned a lot from each other, as well as grew closer to each other.  Our husbands had also started an accountability group where they meet once a week to encourage each other and hold each other accountable to a list of questions agreed upon at the beginning.
In November of 2010 we got the opportunity to start co-teaching in a Life Group class (new name for Sunday School) with another couple in the single adult department at Bellevue.  We prayed about it and felt like we needed to go forward with it.  We were sad to leave our current class, but knew God had other plans for us.  I also quit helping in the nursery during class so that I could focus us our new class.  So now we are in a class with singles in their 20s and it is awesome!  I am not sure, but I think they are ministering to us more than we are ministering to them.
Also in November, I was promoted to manager at work!  I have been an adjustment to this new role and it is going well.

Walkin' in Memphis...2008-2009

In August of 2008 I had a work trip to Nashville for a conference (my first plane ride!)  Trent decided he would drive up the last day of the conference, pick me up, and we would drive over to Memphis and visit the seminary he had been looking at attending for several years.  Since I would already be close to there, it seemed like the best opportunity.  So we drove over on Wednesday afternoon and made it to Memphis just in time to go the Wednesday night service at Bellevue Baptist Church.  It was Awesome August week and David Platt was preaching.  That was my first experience at Bellevue (Trent had been before).  The next day we visited Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary and got a tour from Andy (who Trent went to college with at BCF).  We got to see the campus and the housing.  As we were leaving the campus, we looked at each other and knew this is where we would be…the question was just when.  We knew that God had plans for us to move and Trent to attend MABTS.  It was both exciting and scary…it was 8 ½ hours from home!  But God continued planting in our hearts the love for this place and the reassurance that He had plans for us there.  So we drove back home (a long drive back) and began praying about the timing.  I don’t remember when we finally got the answer, but we were to move in January and Trent start class in the Spring semester.  So we had to make all those preparations and tell our jobs and family…not an easy thing to do.  But it was a chance to be a great witness.  We had several responses that we were crazy or why leave your secure jobs when the job market is so unstable.  God had just put a peace in us that He would take care of all that.  We started sending out resumes, but didn’t hear from any of thing.  I was contacted by a temp agency, but nothing really sounded like what I was looking for.  So we enjoyed Christmas with our families, had a going away party, and packed up the moving truck.
On January 5th we packed up the truck…well my dad did most of the work (really well I might add, because NOTHING broke!).  Dad drove the truck over to my parents’ house and we slept there that night.  The next day my parents, Trent’s parents, my brother and Trent and I loaded up and started the trek to Memphis.  It rained the WHOLE way to Memphis, but it was actually a peaceful drive and I got to spend some good time with my little brother.  J  We got to Memphis around 4:00 PM, signed papers for our apartment, handed over the 1st month’s rent payment and deposit (which was basically all the money we had really be able to save up) and got our keys.  We had gotten to Memphis a little earlier than our parents, so we had a little bit to check out the place by ourselves.  Then the moving truck arrived and the unloading began.  Our first meeting with a new neighbor was Jack, who very kindly offered to help us unload furniture.  How great!  We got the truck unloaded and the essentials setup (bed, dressers in place, dining room table put together).  We went and ate at Corky’s BBQ and were exhausted, so our parents and my brother went to their hotel and we went back to spend our first night in our new place.  Our parents and my brother stayed a few days (I can’t remember exactly anymore) helping us unpack and get settled.  Then when it came time for them to go home it was the hardest day of our lives.  I cried so much because I knew I could no longer just get in the car and go see them (at least not easily or quickly).  But all through this we still knew this was God’s will and were excited about what was to come.  I had an interview the next week for a job at a CPA firm.  I checked website and the phone books and started sending our more resumes to get as many options as possible.  Nothing seemed to be right, so I did get a little discouraged.  Our money was running out and one of us needed a job!  Rent would be due!  I landed a job at Patrick Accounting and was to start February 2 (or maybe it was the 3rd…I can’t remember).  The month in between moving and starting my job was strange.  We didn’t have cable yet and I was bored but also relaxed.  We couldn’t get out to do much because of funds, but it was a good time to chill.  Trent was still searching for a job, but we were doing fine.  He started school on January 19th, and it snowed!  It was awesome…our first snow, well at least that we remember.  We visited around different churches, trying not to just go with our first choice.  After a while we knew that Bellevue was the place God had for us, so we joined in February.  We also went to a dinner to learn about Evangelism Explosion, where I met Dadrian, one of my great friends in Memphis.  Her husband was in class with Trent and when they found out we were both accountants, they knew we would be great friends.  J  We got plugged into a great Bible Fellowship (Bellevue’s name for Sunday School) that we loved was a great Bible focused class.  Trent found an opening at Family Christian store for a job and so he started training in May and really started working in August.  He was working about 4 hours a week, but at least it was something.  Then not long after, there was an opening at Bellevue for an internship.  Trent started in October as an intern in the missions department.  He would be working out at Bellevue’s ministry center in Frasier.  It’s a part time job that works well with his school schedule.  He works with the after school tutoring and Bible club, as well as the Saturday morning food ministry.  The other intern out at Frasier is Kevin and he and Trent are really great friends.  Kevin and his family are from Alabama, and just so happen to be Alabama fans!  So not long after Trent started his intership I met Kevin’s wife Stephanie and we are awesome friends.  They have two little girls who are our “Memphis nieces.”  God has really blessed us with some great friendships here…we wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Our Beginning...

Ok so now you have brief synopsis of our beginning and the logistics.  Now we will see how Trent and I came to be.  I didn’t grow up going to church.  Trent on the other hand was a pastor’s kid, so of course he did.  My family and I started going to church when I was 14 after my grandfather died.  It just so happened that a church had started on the main road that went from Panama City to where we lived in Greenhead.  The church was meeting in a single-wide trailer, which would soon turn into two single-wide trailers.  So my family and I started attending this church, where Trent’s dad was the pastor-Sand Hills Baptist Church.  So that’s where we met.  I was saved the summer of 1999 and was baptized soon thereafter by Trent’s dad.  After that we started going more consistently and I was in Trent’s Sunday school class, which was meeting in his dining room due to space issues.  There was only 4-5 of us in the youth class on must Sundays.  Well long story short we started dating on March 7, 2000.   We were still going to two different high schools so we just saw each other after school and on the weekends.  We got engaged 6 years later on July 7, 2006.  I didn’t realize it until recently that back when we first started dating we had taken prom pictures out by the lake by my house.  Well Trent proposed in that exact same spot…not for that purpose, but it is kind of neat.  We got married on April 28, 2007 at the church where we met.  It was an awesome day.  I moved to Greenwood, FL (about an hour from my parents and his) where Trent had been the pastor of Dellwood Baptist Church for about a year.  The day after we got married I graduated from Florida State University (after spending the first two years at Chipola Junior College-which is now Chipola College).  Trent graduated from the Baptist College of Florida the week after we got back from our honeymoon to Disney World in Orlando.  I continued to work at the CPA firm I had been working at for a while-Tipton, Marler, Garner and Chastain, which was in Panama City.  The drive to work for me was about 1 ½ from my new home.  I was finishing up my last class at FSU in Panama City, so it worked out well.  But once I finished my class and had been driving that route from since April I decided it would be best to find a job closer to home.  So I left that awesome place and found a job in Marianna, FL at another CPA firm – Carr, Riggs and Ingram.  So we continued serving at the church where Trent was pastor-Dellwood Baptist Church.

The Beginning...

Trent was born August 18, 1984 to Keith and Janie Gann in Tupelo, MS.  He and his family lived in Sherman, MS where his dad was a pastor.  He has two older siblings: Tiana and Tim.  When Trent was 4, they moved to Panama City, FL where his dad had been called to a church as pastor.  Trent attended Tommy Smith Elementary School, Merritt Brown Middle School and Mosley High School (class of 2002). In March of 1992 Trent made the greatest decision of his life and repented of sins and placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
I (Jennifer)was born July 19, 1985 to Mike and Janet Churchwell.  I was born in Pensacola, FL at Sacred Heart Hospital.  My actual due date was September 6th, so when mom went into labor in July (in Panama City, FL where she lived) they rushed her to Sacred Heart because they detected something in the sonogram that they were unsure of.  So, long story short I was born premature and had a benign tumor called a sacrococcygeal teratoma, which I read affects 1 in every 35,000.  There were no real issues from being premature, praise God.
I have a younger brother who was born September 5, 1989 (four years younger).  Notice the date he was born and the date of my due date….weird!  J
I grew up outside of Panama City, FL in Callaway…well really out in the boonies outside of Callaway.  We had NO neighbors for miles.  I went to Callaway Elementary School.  Then we moved to “town” when I was in 3rd grade (to Lynn Haven) and I went to Hiland Park Elementary School.  Then the summer before I would start middle school at Merritt Brown (where Trent went) we were at our lake house which was about 30 minutes north of Panama City.  Well we just decided to move into the lake house…we built on a bigger kitchen, garage and an upstairs with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a small office.  So instead of going to Merritt Brown I would go to Vernon Elementary School.  They still had 6th grade in the elementary school.  So then I went to Vernon Middle School and then Vernon High School (class of 2003).

Why This Blog????

We have been going through the Chronological Bible at church this year and I had a thought….we are learning through this year how to see the whole picture, the big picture, of the Bible.  We are putting all the pieces together to see how it all fits together and getting much for context of the passages.  So with this in mind, I applied this to our life.  In our hometown, the people we know there know a lot about us.  They know our background, our history….they have gotten a view of the whole picture of our lives.  Now that we have moved to Memphis, we have met so many people and for the most part they just get to see little parts of our lives.  They don’t get much background, just the little pieces we may talk about in the short time we spent together.  But when you put in the history, the context (like in the Chronological Bible) you understand things a little better.  The little things mean a lot more when you have context and background.  So I was thinking that I should do a blog to show our history…where we came from, where/when we met, etc.   But that is only the beginning! J  Then it will move on into the recent past and what all has happened since we moved to Memphis.  We have a lot of friends and family that we don’t get the chance to talk to or update on our lives since we have moved here.  So this will serve as an updated for all those who are interested.  So many people throughout our lives have supported us, walked with us, befriended us…this will give us a chance to keep in touch and make them a part of our lives again…in a small way of course.  The other blog that I started last year is more or a “what is God teaching me” kind of blog, where this one will be “what’s up in our lives” kind of blog.  So enjoy!  God has been working in our lives since the beginning and it’s so neat to look back and see those things over and over again.  So through all the updating about what’s up you will see how God is working and orchestrating our lives.  All honor and glory to Him for all that has happened in our lives and all that will happen in the future.   I love telling our story, because much cannot be explained except that God was at work.
